Telford Locksmiths, Saint Locks, have seen reports that in the last month police have received around 20 reports of break-ins to garages and sheds in Dawley, Sutton Hill, St Georges, Madeley and more recently Ketley and Jackfield. Various items have been stolen, including mountain bikes, power tools, copper piping and a fridge and washing machine. Police are are warning house holders in general to be aware and to step up security measures in relation to garages and sheds. Telford & Wrekin crime risk advisor Steve Loveridge said:

“from a crime prevention point of view we would ask all home owners to be vigiliant and to increase their security measures. The majority of garages are the up and over type and  have a central locking mechanism, we would recommend additional locks to be fitted as added security or even an alarm system.  Windows should ideally be covered to stop people looking in and again locks fitted. Ideally sheds should not be used to store expensive items and you should consider having a good quality hasp and padlock fitted, shed alarms are also a good deterrent and are available at most DIY stores.”
